Wedding Wednesday

Gabriella + Rod
Ceremony – Riverbend Church, Smith Family Chapel
Reception – Austin Museum of Art Laguna Gloria

Gabi and Rod both love the Blues and met at Antone’s. Rod made the first move – after seeing her finish her green-bottled beer, he ordered her a Rolling Rock and took it to her, only to find that she was drinking Heineken. He quickly gave her HIS Heineken, and drank the Rolling Rock himself. Well played, Rod! The next night they went to see BB King and Buddy Guy at Auditorium Shores.

Rod’s proposal was smoother than his intro – he had nine years to prepare. He proposed on one knee, at sunset on the cliffs of Slieve League, the highest cliffs in Ireland. Rod doesn’t do anything halfway. After practicing law for years, he decided to go back to school to become a Doctor, just like Gabi.

Gabi and Rod wanted their wedding to be fun, “visually elegant” and a packed dance floor the entire night! They love to dance – salsa, tango, swing, you name it, so they wanted the largest dance floor we could fit at the venue!

The traditional Christian ceremony was held at Riverbend Church’s Smith Family Chapel.  Classical music and beautiful floral made the space personal and intimate.

Rod is from Athens, Georgia and Gabi is from Austin, but now they live in Seattle, Washington. Tthey wanted a menu that had subtle suggestions of Southern Comfort food, Tex-Mex, and the Pacific Northwest (as well as a hint of Gabi’s Argentinean roots).  A tall order! Waiters passed jalapeno-bacon wrapped chicken skewers, jumbo crab cakes and crispy potato gnocchi with melted fennel & leeks. The guests enjoyed a buffet feast of herb & sea salt-encrusted beef Loin with Chimichurri, Soy Marinated Salmon Filets with a warm wasabi-honey drizzle, crispy chicken tenderloins with cayenne-buttermilk dip, buttermilk biscuits and cheddar cornbread muffins. They served Cedergreen wines from Washington state and Alberti Malbec from Argentina. The bride’s cake was a simple and elegant, three-tier hexagonal white cake with fresh strawberry and cream cheese filling. Rod’s chocolate groom’s cake was a football helmet decorated to honor Georgia and West Point.

Shades of cyan and bronze jade were strewn throughout the reception. Gabi chose florals in shades of deep ruby, rich eggplant and stunning magenta – an unforgettable color combination! Since Gabi and Rod’s fur babies couldn’t make it to the wedding, they had framed pictures of their feline loves adorning cocktail tables.

After the cake cutting Gabi slipped into a sexy second dress and she and Rod surprised the guests with a HOT choreographed tango! Everyone loved it! At the end of the night, Gabi surprised Rod with a classic teal convertible Cadillac. Guests took home cake jar favors, whose custom flavors were named after wild cats, to represent the charitable donation to Panthera. Panthera are leaders in wild cat conservation, a cause that the couple holds dear.

Gabi & Rod – after nine years of dating and more than a year of planning, you finally did it! We hope the day was everything you dreamed – elegant, beautiful and fun. We will always remember that your huge dance floor was full all night long! May your life always be full of “first dances.”
