Out of the Darkness – You Can Make a Difference!

Tomorrow morning CLINK will be making a difference at the annual “Out of the Darkness” walk benefitting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention!

From the “Out of the Darkness” Web site:
“In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 16 minutes, claiming more than 33,000 lives each year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute; with close to one million people attempting suicide annually. With your participation, you will not just be walking, and your donors will not just be writing a check – you will be helping to save lives.”

The Out of the Darkness community walks take place in more than 200 communities across the country, and this number is growing each year as awareness grows nationally. The Austin walk will begin on the steps of the Capitol and hundreds of Austinites will be on hand walking in memory of their loved ones and honoring their lives.

Come out and help save a life! Casey McPherson of Alpha Rev will be performing his awesome tunes, Annie Ray will provide some photobooth fun and “Lick It, Bite It or Both” will have everyone on a sugar high with their delicious cupcakes! State Representative, Mark Strama, and Travis County Sheriff, Greg Hamilton, will speak about the issues of suicide and mental health and their local impact. Also, local support and awareness organizations will be on hand to provide walkers with information and we all know information is power!

If you can’t make it to the walk, you can still help! Please visit Out of the Darkness to make a donation.
