Kelsey & Michael’s Rehearsal Dinner

Oh boy, was this a fun one! We worked with the groom’s mom to create a really special evening for their family and friends to celebrate Kelsey and Michael’s wedding. We wanted to focus on the groom’s hobbies, and also his South Texas heritage to influence our design choices. Michael is a real man’s man – he loves to hunt and fish, so we wanted the décor to reflect that. We selected Brazos Hall as the venue. Smack dab in the center of downtown, and full of character. It was perfect!

The invitation sets the tone for an event, so after we had our venue, we got to work creating a fabulous, manly invitation. We designed wooden invites and an envelope liner with a ranch-inspired scene. We worked with a stationer to create a custom monogram that was inspired by ranch brands, and used it throughout–on the invitation, of course, (including a custom stamp!), event signage, the custom gobo that greeted guests as they entered the space, and even on the cigar bands and matches for the cigar bar.

For the décor, we wanted there to be a vintage influence for everything . . . like you were going to dinner at your grandfather’s ranch. Our palette was brown and red, with pops of yellow and turquoise. Each table had different vintage chairs, as well as silverware and glasses. We also created lounge vignettes throughout the room with vintage furniture. Floral arrangements had subtle influences of hunting and fishing, such as sea-glass tinted containers and pheasant feathers. To further the South Texas ranch vibe, we sprinkled succulents and antlers in every nook and cranny. We even hung an antler chandelier over the bar!

One of the most fun aspects of the event, at least from a design perspective, was the stationery pieces we created for the actual event. There were wood bar menus, table numbers with the same background as the envelope liner, and menus with the custom monogram. We also created additional monograms centered around hunting and fishing for cocktail napkins.

The event was a blast! Guests enjoyed a menu that revolved around game meats that the groom likes to hunt on their ranch, such as antelope and quail, as well as Texas delights like an avocado bar. During cocktail hour, guests could enjoy watching a cigar roller making hand-rolled cigars, or partake in a whiskey tasting. A guitarist entertained during cocktail hour and dinner, until it was time for the aunts, or “Las Tias,” to give their toast where they welcomed the bride into the family. It was quite the memorable scene!

We had the best time creating such a fun event. We wish Michael and Kelsey the best of luck, and stay tuned for a post about their fabulous wedding the next day!!
