Where Do You Want To Sit?
I am a proponent of assigned seating at weddings. It is a courtesy to your guests and is also a time saver because people know exactly where they are sitting. So now I’ll get down off of my soapbox and show you how to make this necessary detail a FUN one! Table names (as opposed to numbers) are not only a personal expression of the couple, but great conversation starters as well.
At CLINK, our clients complete worksheets that enable us to get to know them as a couple and create the perfect, un-cookie cutter wedding. By getting to know our couples’ personalities, we can suggest the perfect table names for their wedding. Besides looking at our couples’ favorite past times and passions, we are interested in how they met and what defines them as acouple. The name should have meaning to both the bride and groom and should be something the guests will understand.
CLINK favorites:
Guilyn and Troy – Everyone who met this couple immediately felt their positive energy and knew their wedding would be fun and whimsical. We decided to name tables after “happy words” since it was the happiest day of their lives.
Joyous, Jubilant, Excited, Ecstatic
Heather and Griffin – They embody everything that is Austin. The food, the drink and the trail! So we looked to the city for inspiration and they set off to capture photos of landmarks that meant something to them.
Stevie Ray Vaughn Statue, Continental Club, Guero’s, Commons Ford Park
Jenn and Jim – Young at heart was the theme of their wedding, and they still have that 16 year old starry “in love” look in their eyes. Each table was named after a magical place in a children’s book.
Narnia, Who-ville, Fantasia, Shangri-La
Andrea and Richard – Their wedding is actually this coming Saturday and their love story began in a neurology ward! Andrea was the nurse and Richard the doctor. We named their tables after different parts of the brain and arranged their tables so they are anatomically correct!
Cranial, Frontal Lobe, Medulla Oblongata, Orbital
We also like to use your venue for inspiration! Ledlie and Will were married at Old Glory Ranch and there were beautiful wildflowers in bloom, so each table was named after a different flower. Courtney and Burk are getting hitched at The Driskill and their tables will feature famous cattle brands while the head table will have a custom brand using the couples’ initials.
Inspiration can also be found in the other wedding details. Are the Spazmatics your band of choice? Name your tables after 80s power ballads like we did for April and Joel! Serving gourmet Tex-Mex fare, number the tables in Spanish. Perhaps you are serving a to-die-forFrench tasting menu . . . then Un, deux, trios! New Orleans flair from beginning to end – use their historical street signs to inspire your tables.
Inspiration is everywhere . . . open your mind and embrace it!
