Give Local!

Don’t know what to gift someone on your list OR want to make a socially conscience statement this Holiday Season? In lieu of – or in addition to – gifts, consider giving to a local charity in the name of your loved ones. Help out those who are less fortunate by gifting a monetary donation to an amazing organization. Also, get the kids involved! Let them pick out toys and donate them to The Salvation Army Angel program or Toys for Tots. The next generation needs to know that it is truly better to give than to receive!

Here are just a few local charities that CLINK loves and supports. We’ve provided a little snippet of information about each organization from their Web sites.

Austin Pets Alive

Austin Pets Alive! is staffed entirely by volunteers. In a unique partnership with Austin’s municipal animal shelter, APA! is helping to stop the killing of adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. It also promotes spaying/neutering and subsidizes these and other veterinary services in underserved communities. Donate here.

Austin Youth River Watch

Austin Youth River Watch is a multi-year, after-school and summer program for high school students, combining peer mentoring with intensive environmental education.

Students collect, analyze, and publish water-quality data from Austin-area streams and rivers. It report its data to local and statewide agencies.

Guided by a volunteer Board of community leaders, the mission of Austin Youth River Watch is to advance personal and academic achievement through environmental monitoring, education, and adventure. Donate here.

The Trail Foundation

The Trail Foundation devotes its efforts to restoring, improving, expanding and beautifying the Town Lake Trail. Our mission is fulfilled through careful improvements to the Trail’s infrastructure and environment. In a distinctively collaborative effort, we work in cooperation with the city, while honoring the original vision of the Trail’s founders. Donate here.

Emancipet

Emancipet is on a mission to make spay/neuter and preventive veterinary care affordable and accessible to all pet guardians. We provide free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries and preventive veterinary wellness through its stationary clinic on Levander Loop and via its two mobile spay/neuter clinics. Its mobile clinics bring low-cost sterilization services to Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson Counties Monday – Wednesday, and offer free, first-come first-served surgeries in targeted Austin neighborhoods Thursday – Saturday. Emancipet sterilizes over 18,500 pets annually, and provides preventive veterinary wellness services to over 18,000. Donate here.
