Case Study: SXSWi Branding and Lead Generation Event


Our client – an enterprise cloud computing provider – wanted to make a big splash at SXSWi 2013 by creating a decked out, branded lounge where customers and potential customers could come to relax, eat/drink, network, see product demos and have some fun over the course of four days/nights.


  • CLINK’s local relationships helped keep costs down for this large San Francisco-based technology company. The client – who initially elected to use a New York-based event producer – quickly realized how beneficial it is to leverage a local Event Producer with a strong breadth and depth of suppliers/partners. Due to the sheer volume of business we provide our suppliers, we have high priority status with them, and receive high priority service from them. In addition, because our suppliers are all local, the client was able to pay less for some things that they had originally planned to bring in from out of town.
  • CLINK helped to transform this typical bar setting into a magical, relaxing, themed-out lounge – complete with lounge furniture, draping and beautiful lighting. Guests were thrilled to have the opportunity to relax and literally re-charge — CLINK created mini charging stations throughout the space, enabling those who wanted to catch up on email or chat on the phone an opportunity to charge their device batteries.
  • CLINK devised a creative, yet cost-efficient menu to keep guests eating (we didn’t want anyone drinking on an empty stomach!) and enjoying the food. The team always made sure to refresh the food displays so they were always fresh and new.
  • The client wanted to offer their guests a fun, party atmosphere for each of the four evenings. But one night – Saturday night – was the big VIP Party at which everything was kicked up a notch. More food, specialty cocktails, a live band and a DJ set by Pontus Winnberg of Miike Snow. The place was packed all night long and the guests loved every minute of it!
  • Our team was careful to ensure that all information was captured upon entry. Registered attendees and their guests had to leave a business card at the door in order to get a badge,  so that after all was said and done, the marketing team could follow up on all potential leads.


The client hired CLINK just 10 days before the event began! Before committing to the project, CLINK assessed staffing and supplier availability and then worked 24/7 to pull off a fantastic program. Without CLINK’s strong supplier partnerships, the clients would not have been able to be as successful with such last-minute planning. We oversaw all logistics and coordinated all event details on site (registration staffing, venue management, layout/décor, program timeline, entertainment, menu, and on-site management). CLINK took care of the program logistics and planning, so that the client could focus on lead generation and relationship-building with its customers. A well-planned and organized event left the guests buzzing for four days. This event was heavily talked about on Twitter as the “place to be” during SXSWi.
